Santa Recycles Christmas - The Final Chapter

Merry Christmas and here's wishing for us all a much improved 2021!

Chapter 7

At the house in the dining room three women, one husband and a boy drank tea (which was very welcome) and ate some of, if not, the finest honey-cakes any of the guests had ever tasted. Even her Ladyship had to think that cook had excelled herself with them. ‘Note to self,’ make certain that Robert does not find out about the cakes. Who knows what mischief he would get up to for a taste of them.

John found that he could not take his eyes off Jessie. He wanted so much to talk to her, to learn from her, but the time to do so had not arrived.

Julian had waited long enough. He wanted to know what was happening, so he broached the subject. Her Ladyship, delicately put down her teacup and said, ‘that it was not her position to explain, that would be up to David.’

“So where do I find David?” He didn’t mean to sound so abrasive, but it just sort of slipped out that way.

Santa Recycles Christmas - the continuing story

Chapter 5

David was home and he asked her Ladyship if the problem had been dealt with and how?

“Vindec said he had it all in hand the last time I saw him,” she replied.

“I think I better have a word with our Mage.”

David did not like things going on that he did not know about even though he had said, ‘get Vindec to sort it’.

David looked out the window across the field to the distant hills. He let his thoughts expand passing through the hills into a valley and along its length, until he stood mentally outside of a cavern. Vindec’s home. He called out and then the image vanished. Vindec stood beside him looking out of David’s office window. They turned to face each other.

Santa Recycles Christmas - The Story Continues

The story continues...

Chapter 3

Santa drifted out of the wintry but beautiful sky, down towards the flashing beacon of the North Pole. Effortlessly his sleigh passed through the protective invisibility cloak that covered the whole complex. He had a magnificent view as his sleigh glided home. His ancient eyes took in the newly constructed tower. Its open top waiting like an unfed baby bird, spread wide and eager to be fed a needed meal.

The doors to the stable were sliding open. They knew that their reindeer occupants had returned. The sleigh touched down, its skids kissing the smooth ice then gently sliding easily as the reindeer slowed and trotted towards the open and inviting stables. Santa slipped from the sleigh. He was in a hurry to see if everything was as it should be.

The main work barn and former storage area doors opened at his approach, revealing a number of bustling elves and what appeared to be a huge metal box. It had an obvious conveyor belt running from the far side, pushing through the far wall into the toy department beyond. It all looked as though it were operating efficiently to Santa’s eyes. Mrs. Claus approached from his left. She firmly held in her hand his red and white special mug. The mug with his name on it and filled with his special North Pole hot chocolate.

Santa Recycles Christmas - 2020

Here are the first two chapters of a New Christmas Story.
I will be posting chapters each week through December.
Check back to follow the story as it unfolds and comes to a conclusion.

Merry Christmas, David Stevens

Chapter 1

The man known to millions as Santa Claus or Saint Nick or oh so many other names that applied around the world, was currently, on this wet July Tuesday, sitting in a window seat of a trucker’s cafĂ© looking through the rain at a large metal gate whilst waiting for his lorries to arrive.

David Stevens (an old friend of Santa’s) had arranged for the lorries and also provided their drivers. Once Santa had asked him to help in making a fundamental change to the way the North Pole created Christmas for the children of the world. The idea had bloomed in Santa’s mind when the snow had been falling and his wife had presented him with an afternoon mug of hot chocolate, and an idea. He would love to have been able to claim that he had thought of the change, but in truth, and Santa was always truthful, it had been solely down to her.
